MindNode 2 App Reviews

Love it, suggestions!

I love the app. Its clean and focuses on the essentials. With more capabilities vs the older 1.x Pro come new complexities though. By now being able to format every sub aspect of a node it’s now become more laborsome to just color a whole node all at once Also, I need a way to add my own customs tickers (especially tintable ones) to the app. The current ones do not meet my needs nor are they extensive enough. In our company communication we use different icons etc. (I figured out that they are inside the resources bundle inside the app and they are basically black 720*720 images with transparency) Alternatively if you can provide a way to tint regular images that would also work. In fact the whole concept of 2 types of stickers is unnecessarily convoluted. All graphics including user images should be tintable (internally convert them to greyscale first)

Essential to my family

My entire family: myself, 10 year old daughter and my 12 year old son rely on this App almost every day. Well worth every penny! I was a happy 1.0 user and now a happy 2.0 user. Keep up the great work. My kids use it to brainstorm everything from writing assignments, science fair projects, to project plans for boy/girl scouts. Thank you.

Great App, continuing the tradition of Pro

I like the new features of notes and connection labels. Oh and the export to Markdown for including in Github projects. Thanks and keep up the great work.

Great features, needs stability.

I quite like some of the new features. However, the program crashes about every five minutes.

Love the Update

When I saw this Update to Mindnode Pro wasn’t a free upgrade my heart sank for abit but I realised this was one of my favourite programs and a steal at 20 bucks so I didn’t hesitate to purchase it. The yosemite stlying and fixed property boxes - not to mention the new stylings are a grerat addition to Mindnode. Still would like to see a Kiosk mode - where editing is disabled until a password is entered. **UPDATE TO ORGINAL REVIEW** having spent a few days using MN (which I’m still enjoying) I have had the opportunity ot print out a minmap as an outline. Though the printer options are alot better than before the formatting options for the MINd Node as an Ouline are limited . For example I have a mindmap with 5 Main Nodes, Whilst it is great that the Parent Node is the title of the document it would be great to select the Main Nodes as having the property equivalent to Page break. I’ve found that a Main Node may start at the bottom only the siblimg nodes to run to the next page - I try to my paper consumptin to a minium and use duplex - Also it would be great to select a branch and ONLY print that (rather than create a new document) AND finally password protect document using Apple keychain

True to its roots, with helpful enhancements

I’m glad to see that MindNode 2 retains the simplicity and ease of use that set it apart from other mind mapping apps. I can map ideas and concepts rapidly and arrange the branches fluidly. The new pop-up note/comment feature is especially welcome. And I’m glad to see the outline that was in the iOS version make it to the Mac. The new web-sharing capability is very well executed. I used to create dynamic mind-maps based on MindNode Pro via another program. Now I can simply export to the web. Branches expand and collapse just as they do in the app itself. If exported MindNode text documents could map to styles, this app would be just about perfect. As it is, MindNode continues to be my go-to mind mapping app.

Does what the title says, with one caveat

The only thing the app doesn’t do well is to connect ideas in a non-hierarchy. That is, if the iteas form a “mesh” rather than a “tree,” it’s not possible to link them in a practical and effective way. That said, it’s an excellent app for outlining most knowledge trees/hierarchies.

iCloud services don’t work.

I really wanted this product to work. I always purchase based on the Apple “work better together” because I use my iPhone and MacBook Pro together all the time. Some examples are Calendar, contacts and mail. This product CLEARLY doesn’t sync with iCloud. MindNode2’s supprot page are no help either, really a joke just telling you to make sure all the iCloud services are turned on with all the devices you are trying to share with. JUST SAY IT DOESN’T WORK, but don’t pretend your solution actually has a working iCloud implementation when it doesn’t. - Tim Bertheau

Perfect app for mind mapping

I was always into mind mapping & this is the first app that I liked. I love it <3

Very pleased

Enjoying making outlines using this software. I am moving all outlining for classroom lectures and activities to MindNode and exporting different versions for sharing with students and making presentations using Markdown and PDF, primarily to Evernote and iBooks through iA Writer Pro and Ulysses. Two features I’m very happy with that I do not see in other comparable software are the detachable note windows and the Outline view along the side. The overall look of the app is engaging and inviting, and I like using it. As usual, the iCloud support works about as well as iCloud itself does, which seems to mean it’s either fantastic or painful; generally I am not having problems syncing about two dozen loaded maps between my Macs and iOS devices. The print options on the Mac are good, but I would not mind a simple “indented outline” print option without the color bars. Also, at this time it’s not possible to print or export a branch of a map, instead of the entire thing; this is not a big problem. Updates with fixes are coming along nicely and in my one interaction with support, I received a fast response. A feature I could use is an automatically numbering option of branches and nodes, like Harvard style.

Distinctly average

If you’re looking for a basic, no frills mind map app, you could definitely do worse than this. It’s easy to use and colorful. However, with the exception is that it DOES support cross-list connections (which is useful for connecting ideas between branches), there’s really nothing special here. It only provides one customized theme slot, and there’s no way to quickly annotate or differentiate nodes aside from an anemic set of stickers, your own images, or the multi-step process of recoloring selected nodes manually in the style editor. None of these are hard, but neither are they convenient--and convience is paramount in the frenzied flow of note-taking and brainstorming. I don’t regret getting this, necessarily, but I do regret paying $20 for it. There are plenty of free options that are just as good.

Great App

This app won’t let you down. They are always improving it. I use it all the time and it just delivers. I have a couple of others but this is the best.

Awesome!

Im so glad I found this app. 5 stars!

Love it

This is a super useful business tool. There are many options out there and I feel Mind Node strikes a good balance amongst price and being useful and not overfeatured bloatware.

Easily worth the money.

I’ve been a MindNode user for years now and love it. A lot of people might think it’s too expensive (currently $29.99). However it’s well worth the price. The amount of time and effort this application saves me is staggering. Its hands down better than any other Ive tried. I use it extensively and the more I use it, the more I like it. I’m always finding new ways to organize my thoughts and be more productive. I do a lot of writing and really like that it helps me organize my ideas efficiently. I can export them as Markdown and copy and paste the Markdown right into my CMS software. There’s almost nothing left to do in most cases. I end up with much higher quality writing, with a lot less effort than just winging it.

Not a serious tool.

For those who are interested in dabbling in mind mapping, this is an adequate tool. For those who need a full featured tool, it’s best to look elsewhere. The tool is easy to use, however, the flexibility is questionable. To best highliight the lack of serious functionality, consider the ability to add pictures/graphics to the map. The current version allows one to do two different things—select one of their built-in icons, or select a picture from one’s Photos albums. So, for example, if there is a desire to add a logo to a mindmap, it won’t happen unless it’s in a Photos album. It’s a nit, yes. But it demonstrates the lack of an ability to correlate this tool to anything other than a simple home-use tool. That said, I must disagree that this is a serious business tool; business users do not generally mingle their Photos albums with business-related graphics. (Logos, etc.)

Deliciously Simple

Solid, unobtrusive UI enables one to get right down to work. Beatiful and effective auto-layouts. Contrary to what another reviewer wrote, you can place whatever images you want.

great app !!!

I have it on my mac and the iPad. i plan my different projects, think, play a round with ideas. It is a great tool, and very simple to use. I only wish there could be away to generate folating tables….

Great for Brainstorming & Organizing Ideas

Often use this to create a blue print for companies and myself to discover purpose, how to get to long-term goals, and other ideas. Pretty effective as a learning tool as well.

Great App and use it quite often!

I love this app in general. I’m a programmer and I use this app on a regular basis to diagram code and database related tasks. It’s helped me solve some of the nastiest projects I’ve written to date. Many features and quite layout options make it easy to use. I would definitely recommend it! I understand being a developer pushing code forward, but I don’t like being forced to upgrade to version 2 as the previous version (1.x -> 2) was no longer supported on my Macbook and in fact just wouldn’t load the day I needed to finish a project I had started in MindNode. Thankfully the document upgraded after I purchased this for $29.99...
